About NYSD Winter School
The New York School of Design Winter School offers in-person instruction from FIT and Parsons instructors and industry experts. It provides a comprehensive overview of the fashion industry through lectures, college admission workshops, hands-on portfolio development, and, if the timing aligns, a NYSD fashion show and a Luxury Fashion Experience at a fashion house.
Students will master colour coordination, and fabric selection, while visiting textile showrooms, and engaging with industry professionals. They will also have the chance to communicate with FIT and Parsons students for portfolio advice. Students who complete the program will receive a certificate of completion and develop a portfolio to boost their applications to top fashion schools.

Guided by Instructors from FIT, Parsons, and Industry Experts
The New York School of Design officially offers the course. Instructors and guest speakers include luxury fashion house designers, fashion college professors, NYSD fashion instructors, and admissions officers from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and Parsons School of Design, the New School. The courses cover fashion design fundamentals, explore industry trends, and broaden students' perspectives on fashion.
Immersive Fashion Experience
The program aims to inspire students' creativity through diverse courses and engaging activities. Students will participate in brainstorming sessions and group discussions to enhance their creative thinking and create fashion illustrations and mood boards. They will also visit textile showrooms, attend the NYSD Fashion Show, visit luxury fashion houses, and meet with New York Fashion Week experts, gaining insight into the fashion industry's operations and trends.
Obtain Certificate of Comletion and Fashion Portfolio
Students who fulfil the program requirements (80% attendance, completed coursework, and portfolio presentation) will receive a certificate of completion from the NYSD. Students will develop a fashion portfolio with instructor guidance throughout the program. They will present their portfolios at the graduation ceremony, with outstanding works eligible for special awards.
Enhance University Application
The program focuses on the application process for top fashion schools. Students will gain a clear understanding of admission criteria, key deadlines, and portfolio requirements by visiting FIT and Parsons and exchanging insights with current students. Additionally, the program offers guidance on essay writing, covering structure and techniques, to help students strengthen their applications to leading fashion institutions.
In-Depth Exploration of New York City
During the program, students will visit iconic landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Wall Street, experiencing the city's unique architecture and creative atmosphere and fully appreciating the allure of this fashion capital.

Chloe Skalli
Chloe, the principal of NYSD, graduated from Purdue University and comes from a family of fashion designers. A standout Fashion Design and Construction instructor, she excels in guiding students through collection development and prototype creation. Chloe previously worked as Creative Director at Restor Apparel and Chief Technical Designer at Standard Textile, where she led the design and production of fashion collections.Roza Mirakova
Roza Mirakova worked in various companies as a patternmaker/technical designer in childrenswear and womenswear for over 15 years. She graduated from FIT in 1996 with a B.S. in Production Management. She is highly experienced in draping, sewing, and patternmaking. After working as a tutor, she was inspired to teach and share her knowledge with others. She started to teach in 2015 at FIT and NYSD. -
Susanna Moyer
Susanna is currently a Part-Time Assistant Professor at Parsons School of Design teaching in the BFA and MPS programs and Adjunct Professor at The Fashion Institute of Technology. She has created sustainable and ethical modules as a Visiting Professor at The American University in Paris, and has taught and lectured for LIM College, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), FIDM, Parsons Paris and Wenzhou University. Susanna is a member of Fashion Consort an agency of experts and professionals who create, produce and deliver content that inspires, entertains and educates businesses, students and consumers, with a focus on current issues, innovations and authentic human connections.Ester Adam
With over 20 years of experience, Ester has been a Production Manager and Fashion Designer at leading fashion brands like Ralph Lauren Black Label, Isabel Ardee, Jones New York, Darabin, and DL Custom Clothing. A Fashion Institute of Technology graduate, she holds degrees in Production Management and Patternmaking. Ester’s teaching is known for its precision, backed by ten years of experience in high-end custom patternmaking and 17 years of expertise in Gerber AccuMark, grading, and production techniques. -
Jezebel Ortiz
Jezebel Ortiz, an NYSD instructor, graduated from FIT with a degree in Fashion Design, specializing in lingerie design. She teaches the Intro to 3D Browzwear course at the New York School of Design and is a Technical Designer at Adore Me. Skilled in 3D development and strategy, Jezebel has strong project leadership abilities and has designed for brands like Komar, JBS, and Parisa Lingerie & Swimwear using 2D patternmaking software.
